On Wednesday 5 December 2012, the Northern Territory Government signed a Property and Tenancy Management Agreement with the Julalikari Council Aboriginal Corporation (JCAC) at their annual general meeting in Tennant Creek.
The agreement is one of the first of its kind with an Indigenous organisation and was signed on behalf of the government by the Department of Housing’s Chief Executive John Baskerville.
The agreement allows JCAC to act as an agent to the government for repairs and maintenance and tenancy management for housing in the Community Living Areas around Tennant Creek.
During the meeting, a DVD was played that illustrated JCAC’s achievements over the past four decades. The presentation was produced as a useful resource for JCAC representatives now and in the future as it documents the organisation's important milestones.
Setting up the first night patrol in the Northern Territory, a sustainable training and employment strategy and the signing of long term lease agreements are just some of the successful initiatives JCAC has been involved with over the years.
