Under the new remote housing repairs and maintenance contracts, there have been local people employed into real jobs. T&J Refrigeration has secured Rainbow Gateway to carry out handyman type repairs and tenancy management for the 76 public houses in Alpurrurulam resulting in the employment of three Housing Maintenance Officers (HMOs) and two Community Housing Officers.

Demolition works are underway on the public housing site at 1 Runge Street in Coconut Grove, with the run-down building expected to be gone in the coming weeks. The site will be turned into affordable and private housing under the Territory Government’s Real Housing for Growth plan, providing a much needed boost to housing stock in Darwin.

Construction of homes can soon begin on 56 lots in the Palmerston suburb of Johnston 18 months ahead of schedule because the Country Liberals Government is fast-tracking residential land release.
Titles have been issued on 45 single dwelling lots and 11 multiple dwelling lots in Johnston Stage 2B4.  The stage also includes a recreational park and a community purpose lot which has been identified for release later this year.
